Less is more: Art in the recession

How are YOU changing because of the recession?  Artsbeat from the New York Times asked for feedback from artists. I wrote

Q. How has the economy affected me as an artist?

A. I’ve moved farther from “timely” and more into “timeless” — which is where I’m ultimately headed anyway.
“TImely” was more stuff, more entries, more shows, more events, more classes, more ju-ju.
“Timeless” is more painting, more looking, more quiet, more recycling, and more faith that art, timeless, will survive it all.
